The Rise of AI and How We Adapt

Edit Note: I’m editing this months after this was written, and so things have been improved and updated. Perhaps it even feels so normalized that this no longer feels impressive. Alas, I’ll leave the meat of it here for posterity.

It’s amazing how far along things have come.

This core model of GPT had been available for some time. It allowed programmers access to an AI engine capable of scraping the internet and collating data, but we’re now putting the same power into the hands of anyone access to the internet.

In this case, it spits out in mock-typing fashion a better summary of common services we provide as a digital production company. Note that it writes with information likely referenced from a few years back with content available on the internet, presumably mostly blogs that may also lag behind true innovation and up-to-date demands of current photo work in 2023.

The AI output (see below) is surprisingly good, but also feels dated, as the bare minimum for a good tech today.

Clients are now demanding technicians that can handle extensive input of metadata, working with and even building systems to make the process more efficient. This can be coded applications or scripts, purpose-made for our clients’ specific needs. (Interestingly, ChatGPT can also be a valuable tool in augmenting and refining code— more on that in a future post.)

It’s more important than ever that digitechs have a proactive approach to learning about the changing industry.

More is being asked for on each job, including involvement in the equipment selection or knowledge in specialist work. We constantly explore new technologies in the photo space. Even with each update of CaptureOne, we’re dealt new cards to play with (just ask any digital tech), getting all the technology to play nicely together is all extra time outside of the studio that we invest into making your next shoot a success.

Here’s the AI generated article detailing digital tech services offers:

Let that sink in for a bit. I know there are entire job positions being threatened by this development. Image generation isn’t quite there yet, but it’s still very impressive what they’re doing now.

Be well.
